10/29/06 Update

Hello ,

Wanted to pass on a quick update of Kris. He is still in Kentfield in Marin. He is basically in the same state he has been in for the last 3 months, which is eyes open during the day but no response or participation with the outside world. He has sleep wake cycles but unfortunately during the wake cycles, he does not communicate with us. Kris had a CT scan last week that showed he has Posttraumatic Hydrocephalus http://www.emedicine.com/pmr/topic113.htm which is a build up of CSF fluid in the brain. He is scheduled to have a shunt put in surgically on Wednesday to divert the CSF and will be in Marin General hospital for 3 days. His latest EEG showed the subclinical seizures were being controlled with the recent increase in his seizure medication, but he did have one grand mal seizure last week while sitting up in his wheelchair. Last night, he had his first shower in 3 months, which we all imagine must of felt great.

Once he has recouped from the surgery, he will be transferred to Sutter General Subacute Hospital in downtown Sacramento. We are looking forward to having him closer to home.

We will be sure to update the blog soon after the surgery to let you know how it went. Thanks for the continued support and good thoughts.
