Update 11.11.06

Friends and family,
The surgery went ahead as scheduled yesterday and Kris is in ICU at Marin General. We spoke with the neurosurgeon afterwards and the operation for placing the shunt went well. They drilled a small hole in the right side of his skull to place the shunt and made two incisions, one in his neck and one in his abdomen, to thread a tube to his stomach.

However, after the surgery in the recovery room, Kris did have a complication in one of his lungs known as a s
pontaneous pneumothorax. This is a sudden collection of air or gas in the chest that causes the lung to collapse. Luckily the surgeon was in the recovery room with Kris and quickly placed a tube in his lung to inflate it. It is unclear why this happened but it could be due to a past lung infection.

It looks like Kris will be in Kentfield for at least two weeks to adjust the shunt and monitor for progress.

Once again thank you for all the support!

Hi Kathy & family,
I've been checking the e-mails & blogs since the beginning and tracking the progress on a regular basis. My heart goes out to you and what you've been going through.
Bad things shouldn't happen to good people, but unfortuniately they do. I do have something to share with you that is a newly discovered science/technology and would be worth looking into for Kris. I could e-mail the info to you, but it would be easier to explain if you called me at my home; eves are best @ 530-889-2097. Blessings to your family and to Kris's recovery,
Barbara

Hello!!
I wanted to tell you I'm thinking about all of you. I follow Kris's status on the blog.
I'm still picturing Kris and I playing guitar on my first night in Davis, 8 years ago!
I'm sending you prayers, courage and love for Kris's recovery.

Missing you,
Nicolas

Hi Kathy, Michael and Ryan,

I have just learned for Kris by Nicolas. I cannot describe my feelings. I have such good memories of you all, and am however amazed at what a fantastic family you are, supporting Kris through this. From what I read on the Blog, I am sure that Kris benefits fully from all the efforts you are doing to surround him. I am also convinced that he will recover and am looking forward to come and see you all in California.

I wish you good luck, I will take you in my prayers and so will my family.

Best,

Valentin

Hi Cellos- I am so glad to hear the surgery went well even though it did have a strange complication. I keep you all in my prayers, especially Chris, and hope you are all doing the best you can given the circumstances. I really appreciate you guys taking the time to keep the rest of posted about Chirs when you all are plenty busy. Let me know if you ever need help taking care of pets and/or houses as I am pretty much always around.
All my love- Donia

Hello Kathy, Ryan and Mike,

I have just received your blog information from Darren who had just gotten it from Ryan Fuller.

We have had Kris and all of you in our prayers since August when we first heard of the accident.

It is good to hear that progress is being made one step at a time. The word "patience" must pass through your minds often.

We will continue our prayers and wishes for the highest and best outcome for Kris...and for strength for all of you through your daily routines.

Blessings and prayers to all of the Cello family...
Irene and Fred
